The West Virginia Intelligence Fusion Center told 10TV News on Friday that it took a report of a sighting of the man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend and dumping her body in North Carolina.
U.S. Marshals, who are handing the nationwide manhunt for Nate Summerfield, would not confirm the sighting and said that they had no new information to release.
Summerfield, 27, is accused of killing his estranged girlfriend, Lynn Jackenheimer. Her body was found last month in North Carolina.
Michael Piatt, manager of the Beer Barrel Drive-Thru in Ashland where Jackenheimer used to work, said that many people think Summerfield is hiding out of town and possibly is being helped.
“I always thought he wasn’t but the more days it goes on, I think somebody is helping him, myself,” Piatt said. “Every day, it’s getting a little bit harder and harder, because we do want answers.”
Purple ribbons line the streets of Ashland in memory of Jackenheimer, a mother of two.
Community members have raised thousands for her children left behind.
The Beer Barrel started a fundraiser to support the children. They have raised $32,000.
“The people have proved this town is pretty special,” Piatt said.
Piatt said that he was confident Summerfield would be found.
“Eventually, he’ll come up,” Piatt said. “They’ll find him. He’ll mess up.”
