The Knox County Health Department confirmed on Thursday that a bat found in Danville tested positive for rabies.

The bat came in contact with a dog, which will be euthanized.

The bat is the first confirmed case of rabies in Knox County in seven years.

In 2005, there were two confirmed cases involving bats, according to the Knox County Health Department.

A veterinarian with the Ohio Department of Health recommended that the dog either be euthanized or kept under a strict six-month quarantine.

The dog’s owner said that the dog would be immediately euthanized.
