Most AEP Ohio customers will see their bills increase between 5 and 7 percent in the first year of a three year plan.
The Public Utilities Commission approved a modified plan on Wednesday that spreads rate increases more evenly among groups of customers.
No customer will see more than a 12 percent increase over the course of the three-year period.
Regulators initially approved a rate plan and then threw it out in February after receiving more than 1,000 complaints from businesses and non-profits, who said that their electricity costs rose by 40 percent.
