A central Ohio mother was charged in connection with a gunfight and leaving her young daughter home alone.
Mansfield police said that Christina Hunter left her 6-year-old daughter at home on Saturday night when she and her fiancé, Wesley Basilone, 22, left to go to another house.
Police said that a fight broke out and detectives found Hunter, 32, with her hand on a gun’s trigger.
Hunter was charged with child endangering.
“The officers had to separate them, and there were a couple of different stories as to who was fighting whom,” said Capt. Marijan Grogoza of the Mansfield Police Department.
Police said that they then discovered that Hunter had left her daughter at home alone.
Hunter has been in trouble with Mansfield police before.
In October, police received a call from Hunter’s then 5-year-old daughter, who called to say that she tried to drive her mother’s SUV to go find her.
“My mom’s car backed out on accident, and I need the police to pull my mom’s car back in,” said the child to a 911 dispatcher in October.
According to police records, Hunter temporarily lost custody of her daughter earlier this year.
It was unknown why the young girl was in Hunter’s custody on Saturday.
“A call with injuries, a fight, pills and a gun is just not a sign of a mom who’s at home taking care of business,” Grogoza said.
Calls to the Hunter’s attorney as well as to Richland County Children Services were not immediately returned.
