Westerville City school officials are speaking with a company that would provide replacements for unionized teachers in the event that contract negotiations fall short.

On Friday, school officials authorized a contract with Huffmaster, which would provide replacements for about 300 teachers and security workers.

The school district is still negotiating contracts with the union, which represents 1,000 teachers and staff.

The teachers' contracts run through Aug. 31, which is 15 days after the school year begins. School officials said the move is a preventative measure.

The teachers union and school officials continue to negotiate.
