Dublin Officer Accused Of Sending Girl, 16, 'Inappropriate' Pictures

UPDATED: Friday July 27, 2012 6:00 PM

A Dublin police officer turned in his badge and gun after being accused of sending a picture of himself in his underwear to a teenager.

The Dublin Division of Police launched an internal investigation into Officer Tom Seeling after discovering the alleged “inappropriate” picture.

Police said that Seeling did not break any laws but may have violated the values of their department.

Seeling, who also is employed at the OhioHealth Chiller Ice Rink in Dublin, is accused of sending the text message to a 16-year-old girl there.

Dublin Police Sgt. Rodney Barnes said that Seeling has served on the Dublin force since March 2011.

“Right now, we’ve determined that none of the allegations involve criminal behavior, so this investigation is strictly an administrative investigation,” Barnes said.

Seeling was placed on administrative duty, meaning that he would have no contact with the public. He elected to take vacation leave until the internal investigation is complete.

According to an engagement announcement, Seeling and his fiancée planned to marry on Saturday.

A manager at the Chiller said that Seeling was still employed there.

Dublin police said that they would not comment on Seeling’s future with the department until the investigation as complete.

“Certainly, there are allegations of misconduct at times that rise to a very high level, which could jeopardize a police officer’s position, but it would be premature to speculate on that at this point,” Barnes said.

Dublin police said that an internal investigation would be complete in about a week.
