As the city prepares to celebrate its 200th birthday, city officials and local partners are renovating City Hall.
Renovations include the beautification of landscaping and green space surrounding the building, located at the corner of Front and Broad streets. The landscaping renovation is a birthday gift to the city from Scotts Miracle-Gro.
The city's statue of Christopher Columbus, installed in 1955, also will get a makeover.
"As part of our bicentennial celebration, it was important to me that the grounds of City Hall, and in particular, the statue of Christopher Columbus, be ready to show the best face of our city for visitors, our workers and our residents," said Priscilla R. Tyson, finance committee chair for the bicentennial celebration.
