A man was found not guilty in connection with the shooting death of his son's girlfriend.

Michael T. Collins, 54, of Frazeysburg, was acquitted of murder, attempted murder, voluntary manslaughter, involuntary manslaughter and felonious assault in the death of Lilly Pressley-Claggett.

The charges stemmed from a shooting along state Route 586 on July 1, 2011, that left Pressley-Claggett dead and Collins' son, Jessie Bernard Collins, wounded.

According to investigators, there was some type of dispute, and then a vehicle pursuit on S.R. 586 that led up to the shootings.

Collins' attorneys argued that he acted in self defense when he fired the shots.

A Knox County jury convicted Collins of tampering with evidence and having a firearm illegally. He faces up to seven years in prison when he is sentenced next month.
