A mother was in jail after being found drunk in the driver seat with her young daughter in the vehicle.

Shana Huckabee was found slumped over the wheel in front of a church on July 1 with her distraught 8-year-old inside.

Judy Jenkins said that when she saw Huckabee, 43, she tried to help.

"I thought she was in danger," Jenkins said. "My immediate thought was a diabetic coma."

Jenkins tried to open the doors to the vehicle but could not, and called the police.

"(Huckabee's) vehicle was found in gear, the keys were found in the ignition," Gahanna Police Sgt. Ethan Moffit said. "She was slumped over the wheel pressing the brake pedal."

Investigators said that they found empty bottles of chardonnay inside the vehicle. They said that Huckabee had a suspended license, from a prior drunken driving incident.

Police said that Huckabee, whose blood alcohol level was six times the legal limit, slapped a medic in the face when they attempted to transport her for medical attention.

"Not a smart move," said Jenkins. "Not a good example."

Huckabee's family said that she is dealing with her alcohol addiction. Her daughter was placed in the care of children services.
