The central-Ohio based band Red Wanting Blue has landed a gig on the “Late Show With David Letterman.”
The band, which got its start at Ohio University in Athens, will perform on the show Wednesday night. The appearance is the band’s first national television exposure.
“We could shoot out and go anywhere from here, so that’s what we did,” said band singer Scott Terry. “So, from OU to Columbus, and then we hit the road, and we’ve just been running around the country ever since.”
Red Wanting Blue currently is promoting its most recent album, “Vanishing Point.”
Band member Greg Rahm said that he was elated when they got the call from CBS to perform on the “Late Show.”
“All of a sudden, we got the call, and it was just like, ‘Oh my goodness, this is real!” Rahm said.
Terry said that at first, he didn’t believe it was real.
“I was a little shocked when I got the call and was like, ‘Yep, Letterman. We’re on Letterman July 18.’ I kept waiting, like, don’t say anything to anybody because how confirmed is confirmed. And was like, ‘Confirmed. Like ink? Concrete?’”
Terry said he hoped Red Wanting Blue could become America’s next local band.
“That’s pretty much it, if we can continue to spiral into something even bigger, the sky’s the limit,” Terry said.
