A 13-year-old girl was shot on Sunday at an apartment complex, located at 68 N. Hampton Ave.
Police said that 35-year-old James M. Chambers was responsible for the shooting.
“I thought it was a firecracker, so I didn’t get up,” said the teenager, who 10TV News did not identify. “The second time, I got shot right here, so that’s when I ran to the back.”
The teenager was shot in the arm.
The teenager’s mother, Torie, said that her daughter was one of three children sitting on the couch when the bullets came through the ceiling.
“This man intentionally shot my daughter, intentionally,” Torie said. “They are terrified. She doesn’t even want to come anywhere near here. My nieces and nephews, if we stay here, they never want to come visit again.”
Torie said that she would not rest until Chambers was in police custody.
“Mr. Chambers, I would turn myself in. I really would,” Torie said.
Chambers faces a felonious assault charge in connection with the shooting.
