Police continued to search for a man in connection with a shooting that injured a girl.

Police said that the 13-year-old girl was sitting on a couch in an apartment, located along North Hampton Avenue, Sunday at around 6:10 p.m. when a bullet came through the ceiling and struck her in the arm.

Investigators said that they believed James M. Chambers fired several shots from the second floor apartment.

Officers forced their way into the apartment from where they believed the shots were fired, but no one was inside.

"I'm thinking that it isn't safe anywhere, I mean it's bad out here. It wasn't this bad before," said neighbor RoseAnna Wilson. "I've been here five years and in the last four months I've seen more cops here than I have in the last five years."

The victim, whose identity was not released, was transported to Nationwide Children's Hospital where she was expected to recover. There were no other injuries reported during the shooting.

Anyone with information about Chambers' whereabouts is asked to contact the Columbus Division of Police Assault Squad at 614-645-4141.
