The driver accused of striking an officer and woman along Interstate 71 on Sunday appeared in court early Monday morning.

Alphonso Jennings II is charged with two counts of aggravated vehicular assault after he allegedly struck Sgt. Steve Livingston and a woman standing outside a vehicle on the I-270 west ramp from I-71 north at about 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

Jennings' bond was set at $15,000.

According to police, Sgt. Steve Livingston was standing outside a vehicle that has crashed into a wall when Jennings struck the two.

Both, Livingston, who has been on the force for more than 17 years, and the woman were expected to be OK.

Police said that they believed alcohol could have been a factor in the crash. Jennings was arrested on drug and alcohol charges on Sunday.
