An officer and a woman were struck by a vehicle along Interstate 71 Sunday afternoon.

According to police, an officer responded to a call that a car had struck a wall on the ramp from I-71 N to I-270 W, on the north side at about 3:30 p.m.

While responding to the call, both the officer and a woman, believed to be involved in the initial accident, were struck by another vehicle.

Columbus Police told 10TV the officer, who has been on the force for more than 17 years, is in serious condition.  The officer was identified as Sgt. Steve Livingston.

The name and condition of the woman hit was not immediately released.

Columbus Police say the driver that hit the two victims was arrested on drug and alcohol charges, which were believed to be a factor in the crash.
