Man Shot, Killed By Police After Stabbing Officer Twice

A west side man was shot and killed by police early Saturday morning.

According to police, officers responded to Doctors West Hospital at about 1:30 a.m. on a report of a woman who said that she was punched and kicked by her husband, identified as Derick D. Alexander.

Police received a call shortly after 4 a.m. that Alexander had returned to his house, located at 204 Belvidere Ave.

When officers arrived at the house, Alexander barricaded himself in his garage. Officers entered the garage to take Alexander into custody, and Alexander stabbed an officer twice.

Another officer shot Alexander multiple times.

Alexander was pronounced dead at the scene.

The officer, identified as 9-year-veteran Timothy Davis, was treated and released for two stab wounds to each of his shoulders.

The incident was still being investigated.
