A woman ran out of pet store with an English Bulldog.
Workers at the Mochapet store, located on Nike Station Way in Hilliard, said that the woman seemed interest in the bulldog on Monday evening.
Employees allowed the woman to play with the dog but said that as soon as the store filled with customers, the woman took off with the puppy.
Witnesses told police that they spotted the woman leaving with a man driving a white SUV.
Store managers said that they thought the theft was not spontaneous.
The 9 ½-week-old pure-bred English Bulldog was a target, employees said. Store officials said that it was the most popular and expensive breed the store carries.
“They are definitely the all-american breed right now,” General Manager Mariah Rebman said. “Very, very popular.”
Workers hoped the puppy would be returned soon.
“At first you’re angry, then you’re worried,” Rebman said. “So you have all of these emotions. We just want our baby back.”
Rebman said that it is necessary for puppies to see a vet every week.
Police said that the dog theft was a felony offense, because of the expensive price tag.
They hoped they would be able to locate the dog, because it was implanted with a microchip for identification.
