Some COTA riders waited more than an hour Wednesday as the company coped with an early morning evacuation.
A train derailment and explosion forced the evacuation of a bus barn, located along Fields Avenue, throwing the brakes on 135 busses. Drivers operated on a Sunday schedule through the morning.
Some bus riders gave up on waiting and walked to their destinations.
Marlene Bowman said that she had just finished a 12-hour overnight shift and was waiting to catch a bus home.
“I don’t know if they cancelled the busses or not,” Bowman said.
COTA employees were later allowed back to the Fields Avenue location later in the morning. It was not know when normal services would be restored.
