A community gathered Monday evening to pray for the recovery of two boys injured in a crash.
Tyler Batten, a 17-year-old student in the Olentangy Local School District, was driving a car eastbound on Peachblow Road, near South Old State Road, when he went off the left side of the road and flipped at least one time at about 12:35 a.m.
Batten and passenger Pranjal Dahiya, 17, were ejected from the vehicle. Neither were wearing seatbelts, according to the OSHP.
The injured teenagers were preparing for their senior year of high school. Friend Drew Woitovich said that he was waiting for the teenagers at Batten's house when the crash occurred.
Woitovich said that he became worried when hours passed without word from the boys.
"We were still trying to just make as many excuses as we could," Woitovich said. "Like maybe they fell asleep at a friend's house and didn't tell us. We didn't want to accept anything bad had happened"
Investigators said that Dahiya was awake and facing permanent injuries. Batten had yet to wake up, and suffered from a severe brain injury.
"Sometimes we don't even know how close we are until somebody's been hurt or injured," Rev. Kevin Seymour said. "I think we all know now how special we are to each other."
Joined in solemn prayer, the community sent well wishes and hopeful thoughts to the boys, both listed in serious condition.
