Residents in northeast Columbus on Friday were still waiting for their lights to come on.
AEP Ohio officials said the area was the hardest hit in central Ohio. AEP Ohio estimations show the area will be the last to go back on the grid.
Albert Wright said his days for the past week have started with gathering two things.
“Ice and a couple of cans of gas every day,” Wright said. “(We’re) staying inside when we can. We have a couple of fans going, so that helps. We are better off than some.”
A number of Wright’s neighbors in the Blendon Park Condos have generators.
Mike Mallernee said that he has been sleeping in the basement to stay cool.
He said that he and his neighbors were trying to be patient because they knew there was extensive damage along North Hamilton Road.
“I understand, but it’s bad to be the last to get on line. And we truly are the last,” Mallernee said.
Wright said that has made him more appreciative.
“I do miss our air conditioning,” Wright said. “You don’t realize how much you miss power until you don’t have it.”
