Holiday celebrations did not miss a beat Wednesday as crews worked to reconstruct utility poles and restore power to thousands.
“We went to the restaurant to eat because we all of our food is going bad,” Katie Fleming said. “But then we came out here and got water and figured we'd stay out here because it's hot inside too.”
Hundreds of others with the same idea lined the streets in a show of patriotism and perseverance.
“This is a great reminder,” LeRoy McClellan said. “They can’t have too many of these (parades) to remind us of how lucky we are.”
McClellan and his wife, Jane, said that they had the best seats in the house as they watched from their living rooms.
“We normally decorate a lot more, but we didn’t get to it this year,” Jane McClellan said. The couple said it was just too hot.
Parade goers said that they would not let the heat or lack of electricity bother them.
