Widespread power outages have created potentially dangerous conditions for some residents with special health needs.
The grandfather clock in Rita Watson's apartment is stuck on 5 o'clock, the exact moment the power went out on Friday evening.
“Hold your breath, and then it flickered again,” Watson said. “It went out and never came back on.”
Five days later Watson, a diabetic, said that she has run out of patience. Wilson said that she must eat frequently and now her only source of refrigeration is a small cooler.
“Every three hours, on the clock,” said Watson. “If I’m real careful, I do real good, thank the good lord.”
Watson, 83, said that she got upset on Sunday when she learned nearby businesses already had power restored.
Watson said that she would spend another night sleeping on the sofa, trying to escape the stifling heat in her upstairs bedroom.
