While power crews worked to restore electricity on Tuesday, businesses were trying to keep their doors open.

Mika Takenaka of Belle’s Bread, located at the Kenny Center off of Old Henderson Road, said that she began throwing food away on Tuesday.

“We’re lucky to have really good insurance that covers everything from spoilage to labor loss,” Takenaka said.

Belle’s Bread has not had power since Sunday.

“We can’t even order unless we know the refrigeration is working, so we’re waiting for that,” Takenaka said.

Half the businesses in the Kenny Center had power and the other half were without.

“It most definitely hurts us,” said Carol Grant of the Cross My Heart needle point store. “We figure we have to make a certain amount everyday just to keep the doors open, and at this point, we’re not.”
