Police shot a man who allegedly stabbed his two young children on Thursday night.

Police said that they received a call from a woman who claimed her boyfriend was threatening their two children with a knife inside her apartment, located in the 6000 block of Lowridge Dr., on the Far East side, at about 11:15 p.m.

Police said that when they arrived, the man initially refused to open the door for them, causing them to call in SWAT officers.

The man was shot one time by officers because he opened the door and displayed a handgun, 10TV’s Shayla Reaves reported.

The man, who police said also suffered self-inflicted knife wounds, was taken to Grant Medical Center.

The children were transported for medical care and were expected to recover.

The events leading to the incident were under investigation.
