Man Allegedly Cuts Throat Of Dog To Get Girlfriend’s Attention

A man was in jail on Thursday accused of killing his girlfriend’s dog, 10TV News reported on Thursday.

Justin Smith allegedly cut the dog’s throat to get his girlfriend’s attention. The alleged incident occurred shortly before 7 p.m. on Wednesday in the 700 block of Luck Avenue.

According to the Zanesville Times Recorder, Smith, 32, pleaded not guilty to one count of animal cruelty and one count of resisting arrest.

Smith could face up to 180 days in jail and a $1,000 fine for the animal cruelty charge and 90 days in jail and a $750 fine on the resisting charge.

When asked why Smith allegedly cut the dog’s throat, the man said, “Because I can.”

The dog died by the time police were able to arrest Smith.
