A west side apartment building was evacuated Tuesday morning after smoke filled the hallways.
Investigators said that a basement apartment in the building, located along Wedgewood Drive, caught fire at about 4:30 a.m.
More than 20 people, including a newborn, were evacuated safely from the building, 10TV’s Shayla Reaves reported.
Arson investigators on the scene discovered that french fries in the basement apartment’s oven were to blame for the blaze.
There were no reports of injuries. Most residents were allowed back into their apartments a short time after the investigation was completed.
