A pastor said on Friday that he thought thieves stole a cross from his church to sell it for scrap metal.

Rev. Skip Jackson of Indianola Presbyterian Church, located at 1970 Waldeck Ave., said that someone stole a 40-pound metal cross from inside the church. The cross was several feet tall.

“We’ve always assumed it was gold paint,” Jackson said. “I suppose it could be a gold leaf. As far as I know, there’s no metal value in it, and there’s no reason to take it other than it is a cross.”

Jackson said that he has not been able to find a cross to replace it and hopes that whoever took it would return it soon, 10TV News reported.
