Investigators said that two empty boxes and burning trash prompted several west side evacuations early Thursday morning.

The boxes, thought to be suspicious packages, and burning debris were discovered on the porch of a home along South Highland Avenue just before 4 a.m., 10TV’s Shayla Reaves reported.

Neighboring homes were evacuated and residents were held on a COTA bus.

Bomb squad investigators determined that the items did not pose a threat to residents, and allowed them back into their homes just after 5:30 a.m. There were no reports of injuries.
