Arson Suspect Says Mayor Wanted Him To Commit Crime, Found Incompetent

Wednesday June 20, 2012 6:03 PM

A Licking County judge found a Newark man incompetent to stand trial for several arsons, 10TV News reported on Wednesday

Matthew Craig told a psychologist the Newark mayor wanted him to burn down the blighted properties. He also said he believed the witnesses in his case were paid thousands of dollars to testify against him.

Craig is suspected of setting six different properties on fire in September of 2009.

Craig was sent to Twin Valley Behavioral Healthcare in Columbus to determine whether he can be restored to competency within the year.

The Licking County prosecutor's office will determine how to proceed after that.
