Police rescued a man from a car that filled with smoke on Wednesday morning.

According to investigators, the man fell asleep with his foot on the accelerator at the BP gas station, located at Broad Street and Nelson Road, at about 4 a.m.

By the time police arrived, smoke was pouring from the car windows, 10TV News reported. Police said that they pounded so hard on the car windows that the glass broke.

The man, who was not immediately identified, eventually awoke, but needed help getting out of the car and into a cruiser. He was not injured during the incident.
