A man who police said threatened to run over his son on the south side Monday night was shot and killed.
Police said that they received a call at about 7 p.m. about a man, identified as Jesse Ratcliff, trying to run over his son on West Castle Road.
The caller told police that the man said that he was going to come back with a gun. 10TV’s Jason Frazer reported.
According to police, when officers arrived, investigators said that shots were exchanged between people in a van that Ratcliff was driving and a person inside of a home on West Castle Road.
Police said that as officers were radioing for help, Ratcliff stumbled out of the van and collapsed. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators said that they took four people into custody and were questioning them. No arrests were immediately made.
Ratcliff’s wife, Paula Ratcliff, said that she was in disbelief.
“They took my life. I’ve been married to that man for 30 years,” Ratcliff said. “Last July, the doctor gave me 30 days with that man. He told me I’d be lucky if I had 30 days with him, and look he beat the odds.”
