A college student said on Monday that she was the victim of a peeper with a cell phone camera at a central Ohio store.
According to the victim’s mother, Theresa, her 21-year-old daughter was shopping at a Target Store, located on East Broad Street near Waggoner Road, with her 6-year-old brother when a man crouched down to the floor to take a picture under her skirt when she was bending over to look at toys, 10TV’s Ashleigh Barry reported.
“He walked down the aisle, stood next to her and just bent over to look at some toys,” Theresa said.
Theresa, who did not want to be identified by her last name, said that her daughter said that she felt something brush along her ankle and then saw a man pull his arm from under her dress. The man was holding an iPhone, she said.
“I would think she was puzzled, like, ‘What’s going on,’ and then he noticed her looking at him and he took the phone, put it up to his ear and pretended that he was talking to someone,” Theresa said.
Theresa said that her daughter was able to get a good look at the man, and detectives were reviewing exterior and interior surveillance to lead them to the man responsible.
The mother said that she was proud of her daughter’s quick response, Barry reported.
“She took initiative, went and found someone in the store and told them what happened, and they went further and got police involved and that’s what you need to do,” Theresa said.
Police said that the incident was the second act of voyeurism in two years. Police said that they did not believe the two incidents were connected, Barry reported.
