Two city employees were placed on administrative duty and a third was banned from all police facilities because of a criminal investigation, 10TV News reported on Monday.

According to Columbus police Sgt. Rich Weiner, a criminal investigation was launched into the possible misuse of equipment on loan to the department.

Weiner said that no weapons were missing.

Local Fraternal Order of Police President Jim Gilbert said that he was unaware of any sales having taken place regarding the misuse of the equipment.

"Both officers are cooperating and believe they were just following orders from above," Gilbert said.

Gilbert said that both officers were interviewed on Monday, 10TV News reported.

The names of the employees involved were not released because they were not immediately charged, Weiner said.
