Ohio State University is appealing a federal government finding that alleges serious deficiencies at the university's medical center clinical lab.

The university plans to submit information this month to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services that it says will address the government's concerns.

At issue are samples the government says were improperly sent from the clinical lab to another Ohio State lab in violation of university and federal policies that prohibit samples from being analyzed elsewhere.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services warned Ohio State in a June 11 letter the deficiencies limit the lab's ability to render accurate services and protect the health and safety of clients.

The university says the samples were artificial and meant to test lab procedures and no patients were affected.
