Police on Thursday said that they had launched an investigation into a day care worker accused of injuring a child.

According to mother Maria Tyree, her daughter said that she was picked up by her ankles and dropped on the floor by an employee at the KinderCare Center, located at 3885 Berry Leaf Lane in Hilliard.

10TV News did not name the employee because no charges were immediately filed.

Tyree said that she rushed her daughter to a hospital after she complained of headaches, 10TV's Tanisha Mallett reported.

"She began telling me that a teacher at her day care picked her up by her ankles, dropped her on the ground, then picked her up again and dropped her on her cot," Tyree said.

Tyree said that she was shocked because she had never had a problem with the day care.

KinderCare officials released a statement on Thursday that said the organization takes the allegations very seriously and promptly launched its own investigation and placed the teacher on administrative leave. Officials reported the alleged incident to the state licensing agency and is cooperating with an investigation by child protective services.

Tyree said that she was looking for a new childcare provider, Mallett reported.

"My daughter doesn't want to go back," Tyree said. "She doesn't want to be there, period."
