A West Licking Fire District board member resigned over the board's decision last week to place Chief David Fulmer on administrative leave, 10TV News reported on Wednesday.
Reynoldsburg's appointee, councilman Doug Joseph, e-mailed his letter of resignation, The Newark Advocate reported.
"Since I do not and cannot support the clandestine actions the fire board has taken recently regarding Chief David Fulmer, I have decided to remove myself and the City of Reynoldsburg from this matter completely,” Joseph wrote in his e-mail.
West Licking Fire District officials have not said why Fulmer was placed on leave but said that there was no criminal activity involved.
Fulmer was hired in 2009 to replace longtime chief Jim Weber, who retired.
