Firefighters had to dig a trench on Tuesday to rescue a miniature long-haired Dachshund that got stuck in a groundhog hole.

The dog, Prince, got stuck in a hole about 6 feet under the garage of his Whitehall home, located on Yearling Road.

Firefighters from the Whitehall Division of Fire had to dig a trench to remove the 6-year-old dog.

“They dug this hole, I mean, dug, for 45 minutes to an hour to get him, and they had to use this heat seeking light to find about where he was at in the hole,” owner Ladonna Nelson said.

Nelson said that Prince was uninjured but very dirty after being rescued.
