A woman was recovering on Tuesday after being bitten by a shark.
Megan Konkler was on vacation with her family in Avon, N.C., when she was bitten,10TV’s AJ Smith reported.
“We were just playing with the sand and digging up shells, making the sand castles,” Konkler said. “I can’t believe I got (bitten) by a shark. What are the chances?”
Konkler, who received 23 stitches in her foot, said that she was waist deep when a wave came over her.
“All of a sudden, I felt something on my toe, and I kind of jerked my foot up,” Konkler said. “I looked down, and the shark was right next to me.”
The woman said that she felt like she was in slow-motion as she tried to get out of the water, Smith reported.
“I jerked my foot up, and I think by doing that, this foot came down and stepped on it, stepped on the shark, and that’s when he bit down on this foot here,” Konkler said. “It was just this weight that had bit down on my foot, and I thought for sure it was just going to keep biting me.”
According to Konkler, the shark was about 3 feet long and nearly bit through her foot.
Konkler said that she would not let herself be afraid of the ocean and the beach, which she loves.
“I’ll go back as soon as I can,” Konkler said.
