West Licking Fire Chief Placed On Administrative Leave

West Licking Fire District officials said on Wednesday that fire Chief David Fulmer was placed on paid administrative leave.

Mike Fox, a fire district board member and Pataskala city councilman, would not say why Fulmer was placed on leave but said that there was not an investigation.

Fox said that there was no criminal activity involved, 10TV News reported.

According to Fox, the board placed Fulmer on leave to give the chief a chance to make a decision about his future, 10TV News reported.

Fulmer was hired in 2009 to replace longtime chief Jim Weber, who retired.

In 2011, a former West Licking employee sued the department and some of its officials for age discrimination, The Newark Advocate reported.

The employee also alleged that Fulmer directed her to use a personal e-mail address to contact a company representative of a company that had been blacklisted by the district.

The case has not been to trial yet, according to the Advocate.

According to Fox, the board cut Fulmer's spending limit from up to $5,000 to no more than $500 earlier this month.

Fox said that the cut was to tighten the budget and decrease purchases that could be deemed unnecessary.
