Dublin Police Warn Residents About Spike In Apartment, Condo Burglaries

UPDATED: Saturday May 26, 2012 9:21 AM

The Dublin Division of Police said Friday that officers have taken nine reports of burglaries at apartments or condos since May 2.

Vacant apartments and condos have been the primary target of thieves during the daytime, police said.

The Perimeter Lakes Apartments, Inverness Circle, Gordon Farms Apartments, Carrowmoor Condos, Corbins Mill Condos, Residences at Scioto Crossing and Tuttle Parke Apartments have been the sites of the burglaries, 10TV’s Jason Frazer reported.

In most of the reports, no visible force was used to enter the buildings.

Items reported missing include a hot water heater, laptop computers, TVs, iPods, jewelry, duffle bags, iPads, cash, checkbooks, a laundry basket, an ice chest, a jar of change, a safe deposit bag and a sports bag.

Resident Reilly Smith said that he felt violated.

“Every drawer and every cabinet in the house was open,” Smith said.

Smith said burglars left behind clothes tossed on the floor in every room.

Thieves made off with his daughter’s laptop and priceless heirlooms, Frazer reported.

“My wife’s wedding band in particular, it was three welded together,” Smith said. “She had lost the stone in her engagement ring, so that’s why she wasn’t wearing it. It’s heart wrenching, because you can’t go back and replace that.”

Residents are encouraged to look for suspicious or unusual activity and keep their doors and windows closed when they leave.

Anyone who witnesses a crime or something suspicious should call Dublin police at 614-899-1112.
