investigators Monday said that two suspicious packages found downtown did not contain a threat.

Investigators opened the packages at about 2:45 p.m. and found what appeared to be clothing, 10TV News reported.

Emergency crews closed East Broad Street between High and Fourth streets at about 1:20 p.m. while investigating the packages left in front of the James A. Rhodes State Office Tower.

Police also halted foot traffic along the road after the incident was reported.

Employees at the Rhodes Tower, located at 30 E. Broad St., told 10TV News that the first three floors of the building were evacuated. Authorities set up a 500-foot perimeter around the building.

Workers at Dispatch Digital, located at 62 E. Broad St., were told to stay away from the front windows of the building and only enter and exit the building through the rear door until further notice.
