Police in Athens planned to meet with city leaders about how to better control block parties after Palmer Fest got out of control Saturday night.

Police and S.W.A.T. officers had to break up the party early after a fire broke out at a home on Palmer Street, 10TV's Kevin Landers reported Sunday.

Investigators think the fire started in the basement of the home.

"As far as who started it or what started it, that's just speculation. It's under investigation and it's listed as a suspicious act," Athens Assistant Service Safety Director, Ron Lucas said.

The mayor of Athens deemed it all a riot, Landers reported.

Police said 28 people were arrested, mostly for alcohol related offenses.
