A student who identifies himself as male said on Tuesday that he has filed a complaint against a Miami University official because the school was not doing enough to meet the needs of transgendered students.
Kaeden Kass, a student at Miami University in Oxford, said that he wanted to become a Residential Assistant in a male dorm but was not allowed, because his birth certificate lists him as a female.
The university offered Kass a position at a female suite, 10TV News reported.
“The problem is, I’m a male identified-person, and as soon as I’m in a space that is all female, my identity gets erased,” Kass said.
Miami University spokeswoman Claire Wagner said that the university offers gender-neutral housing options.
“The university does offer gender-neutral housing for those students who feel more comfortable living with students of a different biological gender,” Wagner said.
Kass said that he had filed a complaint against the dean of students and the university council.
The university said that it would not make further comments because of privacy issues, 10TV News reported.
