The Fayette County Sheriff's Office said that five elementary school students were injured in a school bus crash late Monday afternoon.

According to investigators, the bus crashed along state Route 38, between Bloomingburg and Washington Court House at about 4:15 p.m.

Miami Trace Local Schools Superintendent Daniel Roberts said the bus, which was holding 50 students at the time, slid into a ditch after hitting some soft dirt on the edge of the road. When crews arrived on the scene, they found the bus on its side.

Roberts said five Miami Trace Elementary School students were taken to the hospital with minor injuries, 10TV's Kevin Landers reported.

The crash remained under investigation by the Fayette County Sheriff's Office.
