Police on Wednesday were searching for a man they said followed and approached a girl on the way to school Tuesday morning.

According to police, the 13-year-old girl was walking to school with her two younger brothers when a man tried to lure her into his car, 10TV’s Jessa Goddard reported.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Blake and Media avenues while the students were walking to the Hamilton STEM Academy on the north side.

“The person inside mentioned for her to get in the car,” Columbus police Sgt. Rich Weiner said. “She did the right thing, continued walking, walked a bit faster. Her brothers witnessed this, and they were able to give a description to the officers.”

Weiner said that the girl’s actions not only kept her from being physically harmed but also could protect her classmates by reminding parents to talk to their children about dangers, Goddard reported.

“I’m usually here 20 minutes ahead of time, so that I can make sure that no one is approaching her, and I can get a visual of her getting off the bus and into my car,” parent Jeff Harris said.

Police said that they were looking for a newer-model dark blue car with large chrome rims and a pointy front end. They said the car could be a Cadillac.
