Dozens of rescued dogs from southern Ohio were brought to Columbus in search of new homes, 10TV News reported on Monday.

More than 70 dogs were brought from the Scioto County Dog Pound in Portsmouth to the Capital Area Humane society in Hilliard.

It was part of the EmBARK program, which was designed to relieve overcrowding at the Portsmouth facility by transferring adoptable dogs to central Ohio for re-homing.

A grant and private donation paid  for the animals to be vaccinated at the Scioto County Dog Pound, 10TV News reported.

A former employee spent 100 hours upgrading the shelter, and once-a-week, customer care managers from the humane society traveled to Scioto County to bring dogs back to Franklin County.

The humane agents said that because the dogs were vaccinated prior to coming to Franklin County, they can be adopted much faster once they arrive in Hilliard.
