Police said that a man was trapped under a COTA bus on the east side Friday afternoon.

According to police, the victim was trapped near Main Street and Lilley Avenue at about 2:45 p.m.

Officials said that it appeared the man was running from police after an attempted break-in, 10TV’s Danielle Elias reported.

Police said that the attempted break-in occurred on East Rich Street.

The crash temporarily closed East Main Street between Kelton Avenue and Berkeley Road.

A spokesperson for COTA said that the bus driver was on her normal route.

“She saw a gentleman running and sensed that something wasn’t quite right, so she began to honk the horn and slowed the bus down,” Beth Berkemer of COTA said. “At that point, he ran in front of the bus and was taken underneath the front bumper.”

The man had a broken leg and was taken to Grant Medical Center, 10TV News reported.

The condition and identity of the person were not immediately released.
