The state legislature approved a bill Wednesday that gives the Attorney General’s office more resources to fight online fraud.
The bill changes how the state’s top attorney can go after online scammers, 10TV News reported.
Republican State Sen. Kevin Bacon said that cyber criminals are some of the toughest criminals to find.
“It’s a great thing, because we have to keep up with the bad guys,” Bacon said. ‘there are scrupulous individuals out there who will find a way to defraud our most vulnerable citizens, and we need to keep up with them.”
The bill gives subpoena power to the Attorney General, allows his office to look at phone records, IP addresses and payment information from Web sites like Craigslist, Ebay and Facebook, 10TV News reported.
