The London City Council is one step away from approving legislation that would allow construction of an 8-acre solar farm next to the Staples Warehouse in London, 10TV News reported.

City officials said that construction would create about 100 jobs.

Staples would then be able to purchase power at a cheaper rate from the utility developer Sun Edison.

"Staples will then have a benefit because they'll be buying the electricity cheaper from the Sun Edison utility rather than Ohio Edison. So they're going to have some extra money to work with and maybe hopefully expand," said London Safety and Service Director Steve Hume.

A public hearing on the proposed solar energy system was scheduled for March 15 during the city council meeting.

Construction is expected to take around three to four months.
