New Plan Created To Tackle Opiate Addiction

 The state of Ohio has been working on a new plan of attack to help prevent and treat drug addiction, 10TV’s Kevin Landers reported Sunday.

According to experts, the number of people over-dosing on heroin and OxyContin has reached epidemic levels.

In March, the Ohio Department of Alcohol and Drug Addiction is planning to unveil a new protocol in order to treat opiate addiction.

Amy Seidle’s brother, Brian Greer, was electrocuted while trying to steal copper wire.

Seidle said her brother was trying to get money to feed his addiction.

“This is a disease,” said Seidle. “We need to step up and we need to provide treatment.”

Matt Morrison, a recovering heroin addict, believed he is one of the lucky ones.

“The first time I took a painkiller or the first time I stuck a needle in my arm I had no idea I was signing a deal with the devil,” said Morrison.

Morrison said the key to helping addicts is treatment.

“That person's destiny is going to be dead or in jail, there's no way other way around it,” said Morrison.

In June, the advocate group Ohio Citizen Advocates will announce a series of town hall meetings about opiate addiction.
