A fifth-grade girl on Thursday said that a man and a woman attempted to lure her into their van with candy.
According to Christie Cox, a couple in a blue minivan approached her on Tuesday evening while she was headed to her grandmother’s house.
Before the van stopped her, Cox said, the couple approached a fourth-grade boy, 10TV’s Josh Poland reported.
“They asked me if I wanted candy, and they told me they would take me to Burger King, and I told them no and took off running,” Cox, 10, said.
Cox said that she started running to her grandmother’s house, but the couple in the van stopped her again, Poland reported.
“They said, ‘Come on. I’ll give you candy,’ again,” Cox said. “And they kept saying, ‘I’ll take you to Burger King,’ and I didn’t go. I just took off running again.”
Christina Cox, Christie’s mother, said that the family immediately called police.
“They looked all evening, but they had no luck,” Christina Cox said.
Police said that they had not received any other reports but they did contact the Circleville City School District, which issued an alert to parents.
“It doesn’t matter what time of the day it is, do not let your children walk by themselves anywhere,” Christina Cox said.
